European Otter
The European Otter (Lutra lutra) is a semi-aquatic mammal found across Europe, except in some parts of Ireland and northern Scandinavia. It has a streamlined body, webbed feet, and a thick fur coat that helps it stay warm in cold water. European otters primarily inhabit rivers, lakes, and coastal areas, where they hunt for fish, amphibians, and small mammals.
These otters are known for their playful behavior and social structures, often living in family groups. They are excellent swimmers, using their strong tails to propel themselves through the water. The European otter is currently listed as a species of least concern, but habitat loss and pollution pose threats to its populations.
