European Eel
The European Eel is a long, snake-like fish found in rivers and coastal waters across Europe. It is known for its unique life cycle, which begins in the Sargasso Sea, where eels spawn. After hatching, the larvae drift to Europe, where they grow in freshwater and estuarine habitats.
These eels can live for many years, sometimes up to 20, before returning to the Sargasso Sea to reproduce. The species is currently facing threats from overfishing, habitat loss, and climate change, leading to a decline in their population and raising concerns about their conservation status.
