European Cuckoo
The European Cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) is a migratory bird found across Europe and parts of Asia. It is known for its distinctive call, which sounds like "cu-coo," and its grayish-brown plumage with a lighter underbelly. The cuckoo typically arrives in Europe during spring and departs in autumn, often traveling to Africa for the winter.
One of the most interesting behaviors of the European Cuckoo is its brood parasitism. Instead of building its own nest, the female lays her eggs in the nests of other bird species, such as warblers or thrushes. The host birds then raise the cuckoo chicks, often at the expense of their own offspring.
