European Court of Auditors
The European Court of Auditors (ECA) is an institution of the European Union responsible for auditing the finances of the EU. Established in 1975, its main role is to ensure that EU funds are used effectively and that financial management is transparent. The ECA examines the accounts of EU institutions and assesses whether the money is spent in accordance with the law.
The ECA is composed of one member from each EU member state, appointed for a six-year term. It reports its findings to the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, helping to improve the financial accountability of the EU and its institutions.
