Eugene Talmadge
Eugene Talmadge was an American politician who served as the Governor of Georgia during the 1930s and early 1940s. He was known for his strong support of white supremacy and his opposition to the New Deal policies of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Talmadge's tenure was marked by his controversial decisions regarding education and civil rights.
Talmadge was born on September 18, 1884, in McRae, Georgia. He was a prominent figure in the Democratic Party and was elected governor four times, although his terms were often interrupted. His political career ended when he died in 1946, shortly after being elected to a fifth term.
