Estonian Municipalities
Estonian municipalities are the basic administrative units in Estonia, responsible for local governance and public services. There are two main types: cities and rural municipalities. Each municipality has its own council, which is elected by local residents, and is tasked with managing local affairs such as education, infrastructure, and social services.
Estonia has a total of 79 municipalities, including 30 cities and 49 rural municipalities. The capital city, Tallinn, is the largest municipality and serves as the political, economic, and cultural center of the country. Municipalities play a crucial role in implementing national policies at the local level.
