Esteban Echeverría was an Argentine writer and poet born in 1805. He is best known for his contributions to the Romantic movement in Latin America. Echeverría's most famous work, "El matadero" (The Slaughterhouse), critiques the political and social conditions of Argentina during the early 19th century, particularly the tyranny of Juan Manuel de Rosas.
In addition to his literary achievements, Echeverría was also involved in politics and was a member of the Generación del 37, a group of intellectuals advocating for liberal reforms. His works have had a lasting impact on Argentine literature and continue to be studied today.
