Esophagram
An esophagram, also known as a barium swallow, is a diagnostic imaging test used to examine the esophagus. During the procedure, the patient drinks a liquid containing barium, a contrast material that helps highlight the esophagus on X-ray images. This test is useful for identifying issues such as strictures, tumors, or inflammation.
The esophagram is typically performed in a radiology department. Patients may be asked to change positions during the test to allow for comprehensive imaging. The results help healthcare providers diagnose conditions affecting the esophagus and plan appropriate treatments.
