Eritrean People's Liberation Front
The Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF) was a political and military organization that played a crucial role in Eritrea's struggle for independence from Ethiopia. Founded in 1970, the EPLF aimed to establish a democratic and socialist state in Eritrea. It gained significant support among the Eritrean population and was instrumental in the armed struggle against Ethiopian rule.
In 1991, the EPLF successfully overthrew the Ethiopian government, leading to Eritrea's independence in 1993. Following independence, the EPLF transformed into a political party, the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), which has since dominated Eritrean politics. The EPLF's legacy continues to influence Eritrea's political landscape today.
