Equus africanus
Equus africanus, commonly known as the African wild ass, is a subspecies of the wild ass native to the arid regions of northeastern Africa. It is characterized by its slender body, long legs, and large ears, which help it dissipate heat. The coat is typically grayish-brown with white markings on the face and belly.
This species is critically endangered, primarily due to habitat loss and competition with domestic livestock. Conservation efforts are underway to protect the remaining populations in their natural habitats, as well as in zoos and wildlife reserves around the world.
