Equity Release
Equity Release is a financial product that allows homeowners, typically aged 55 and over, to access the value tied up in their property without having to sell it. This can provide extra funds for retirement, home improvements, or other expenses. The most common types of equity release are lifetime mortgages and home reversion plans.
With a lifetime mortgage, homeowners borrow against their property while retaining ownership, repaying the loan plus interest when they pass away or move into care. In a home reversion plan, homeowners sell a portion of their property to a provider in exchange for a lump sum or regular payments, while still living in the home.
