Equitable Distribution
Equitable Distribution is a legal principle used in divorce proceedings to divide marital property fairly between spouses. It does not necessarily mean an equal split, but rather a distribution that considers various factors, such as the length of the marriage, each spouse's financial situation, and contributions to the marriage.
In many jurisdictions, courts assess the value of assets, including real estate, bank accounts, and retirement funds, to determine how to allocate them. The goal is to achieve a fair outcome that reflects the contributions and needs of both parties, rather than simply dividing everything down the middle.
