Enriched Air
Enriched air, also known as Nitrox, is a breathing gas that contains a higher percentage of oxygen than regular air. While normal air consists of about 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen, enriched air typically has between 22% and 40% oxygen. This modification allows divers to extend their bottom time and reduce the risk of decompression sickness during underwater activities.
Using enriched air requires special training and equipment to ensure safety. Divers must be aware of the potential risks associated with higher oxygen levels, such as oxygen toxicity. Proper planning and adherence to dive tables or computers are essential for safe diving with enriched air.
