Endocannibalism
Endocannibalism is the practice of consuming the flesh of a deceased member of one's own social group or community. This ritual is often rooted in cultural beliefs, where eating the body is seen as a way to honor the dead and maintain a connection with them. It is distinct from other forms of cannibalism, as it specifically involves individuals from the same group.
This practice has been observed in various cultures around the world, including among some indigenous tribes in the Amazon rainforest. In these communities, endocannibalism may serve spiritual purposes, such as ensuring the deceased's spirit remains within the living or as a means of expressing grief and respect.
