Emma Willard
Emma Willard (1787-1870) was an American educator and women's rights advocate known for her contributions to women's education. She founded the first school for girls in the United States, the Troy Female Seminary, in Troy, New York in 1821. Willard's innovative curriculum emphasized subjects like mathematics and science, which were typically reserved for boys at the time.
In addition to her work in education, Willard was a prominent advocate for women's rights. She published several influential works, including the Plan for Improving Female Education, which outlined her vision for women's education reform.
