Emergency Beacons
Emergency beacons are devices designed to send distress signals in situations where help is needed. They are commonly used in outdoor activities like hiking, boating, and aviation. When activated, these beacons transmit a signal that can be detected by search and rescue teams, helping them locate individuals in emergencies.
There are different types of emergency beacons, including Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) and Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs). PLBs are portable and often used by individuals, while EPIRBs are typically installed on boats. Both types operate via satellite systems, ensuring that help can be dispatched quickly, even in remote areas.
