Embolization Techniques
Embolization techniques are minimally invasive procedures used to block blood flow to specific areas of the body. This is often done to treat conditions such as tumors, vascular malformations, or excessive bleeding. During the procedure, a doctor uses imaging guidance to insert a catheter into a blood vessel and deliver materials, such as coils or particles, to obstruct the targeted blood supply.
These techniques can be performed using various materials, including polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) particles, gelatin sponge, or coils. Embolization is considered a safe alternative to traditional surgery, offering shorter recovery times and reduced risks of complications.
