Elisha Otis
Elisha Otis was an American inventor born on August 3, 1811, in Halifax, Vermont. He is best known for founding the Otis Elevator Company and for inventing the safety elevator, which made it possible to build taller buildings. His invention included a mechanism that prevented the elevator from falling if the cable broke, significantly improving safety.
