Elephant's Trunk Nebula
The Elephant's Trunk Nebula is a region of star formation located in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is part of a larger structure known as the IC 1396 complex, which contains a mix of gas and dust. The nebula gets its name from its elongated shape, resembling the trunk of an elephant.
This nebula is approximately 2,400 light-years away from Earth and is rich in young stars. The dense areas within the nebula are where new stars are being born, while the surrounding gas and dust create a beautiful and colorful backdrop for astronomical observations.
