Electoral Districts Of Canada
Electoral districts in Canada, also known as ridings, are specific geographic areas that elect representatives to the House of Commons. Each district is designed to ensure that the population is fairly represented in the federal government. The number of districts can change based on population shifts, as determined by the Census conducted every five years.
Canada currently has 338 electoral districts, each represented by a Member of Parliament (MP). The boundaries of these districts are reviewed and adjusted by the Boundary Commissions to reflect demographic changes and ensure equitable representation. This process helps maintain the principle of “one person, one vote” across the country.
