Eighth Crusade
The Eighth Crusade took place in 1270 and was led by King Louis IX of France. The primary goal was to capture the city of Tunis in North Africa, which was seen as a strategic location for further Crusading efforts. Louis aimed to strengthen Christian influence in the region and hoped to convert the Muslim population.
The campaign faced numerous challenges, including disease and lack of support. Shortly after arriving in Tunis, King Louis IX fell ill and died. The remaining Crusaders eventually retreated, marking the end of the Eighth Crusade and a significant decline in Crusading efforts in the Holy Land.
