Efik
The Efik are an ethnic group primarily found in southeastern Nigeria, particularly in the Cross River State. They are known for their rich cultural heritage, which includes traditional music, dance, and festivals. The Efik language, a member of the Benue-Congo branch of the Niger-Congo language family, is widely spoken among the community.
Historically, the Efik were involved in trade and were significant players in the palm oil industry during the colonial period. Their traditional governance system is led by a king, known as the Obong, who plays a crucial role in the community's social and political life.
