Edward Tingatinga
Edward Tingatinga was a Tanzanian painter born in 1932 in the city of Dar es Salaam. He is best known for founding the Tingatinga art style, which features vibrant colors and simple, bold designs. His work often depicted everyday life, animals, and nature, reflecting the culture and environment of Tanzania.
Tingatinga began painting in the 1960s, using enamel paint on masonite boards. His unique style gained popularity, leading to the establishment of a thriving art movement.
