Edward Barnard
Edward Barnard was an American astronomer born on December 16, 1857, in Nashville, Tennessee. He is best known for his discovery of the fifth moon of Jupiter, named Amalthea, in 1892. Barnard's work significantly contributed to the field of astronomy, particularly in the study of planetary bodies and their movements.
In addition to his discovery of Amalthea, Barnard made important observations of comets and was the first to photograph the Milky Way in detail. He served as the director of the Lick Observatory and was recognized for his expertise in astrophotography, earning him a prominent place in the history of astronomy.
