Edmund Fitzgerald
The Edmund Fitzgerald was a large freighter that sank in Lake Superior on November 10, 1975. It was built in 1958 and was known for transporting iron ore from mines in Michigan to steel mills in the Midwest. The ship measured 729 feet in length and was one of the largest on the Great Lakes.
The sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald resulted in the loss of all 29 crew members aboard. The ship encountered severe weather conditions, including high winds and waves, which contributed to its tragic fate. The incident remains one of the most famous maritime disasters in the history of the Great Lakes.
