Edmond Rice
Edmond Rice was an Irish Christian brother and educator born on June 1, 1762, in Callan, County Kilkenny, Ireland. He is best known for founding the Christian Brothers, a religious order dedicated to the education of poor boys. Rice's commitment to education stemmed from his own experiences and the desire to provide opportunities for those less fortunate.
In 1802, Edmond Rice established his first school in Waterford, Ireland, which focused on both academic and moral education. His work laid the foundation for a network of schools that spread across Ireland and beyond, significantly impacting the education system. Rice was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 1996.
