Earthquake Commission
The Earthquake Commission (EQC) is a New Zealand government agency established to provide insurance coverage for residential properties against earthquake damage. It was created in response to the need for a reliable system to help homeowners recover from the financial impacts of earthquakes. The EQC also plays a role in promoting public awareness and preparedness for seismic events.
In addition to insurance, the EQC conducts research and collects data on earthquakes to improve understanding and resilience. It collaborates with other organizations, such as GNS Science, to enhance knowledge about seismic risks and to develop strategies for disaster management and recovery.
