Earthball
The Earthball, scientifically known as Scleroderma citrinum, is a type of fungus that resembles a small, round ball. It typically grows in forests and grassy areas, often appearing in late summer and fall. The outer surface is usually brown or yellowish, and when mature, it releases spores through a small opening at the top.
This fungus is not edible and can be toxic if consumed. Earthballs play an important role in the ecosystem by breaking down organic matter and returning nutrients to the soil. They are part of the larger group of fungi, which includes mushrooms and molds, contributing to biodiversity.
