Dzhiga Vertov
Dzhiga Vertov was a pioneering Soviet filmmaker and theorist, born in 1896 in what is now Ukraine. He is best known for his innovative approach to documentary filmmaking and his belief in the power of cinema to capture reality. Vertov created the concept of the "Kino-Eye," which emphasized the camera's ability to reveal truths that the human eye might miss.
His most famous work, Man with a Movie Camera, released in 1929, is a landmark in the history of cinema. The film showcases everyday life in a Soviet city, using experimental techniques such as fast motion, slow motion, and double exposure. Vertov's contributions have had a lasting impact on both documentary and experimental filmmaking.
