Dural Sinuses
Dural sinuses are large channels located between the layers of the dura mater, which is the outermost membrane covering the brain and spinal cord. These sinuses collect and drain blood from the brain, as well as cerebrospinal fluid, back toward the heart. They play a crucial role in maintaining proper blood circulation within the central nervous system.
The main dural sinuses include the superior sagittal sinus, transverse sinus, and sigmoid sinus. Blood from the brain drains into these sinuses before it is returned to the internal jugular vein. Proper functioning of the dural sinuses is essential for brain health and overall circulation.
