He became the Duke of Normandy in 1035 and is best known for leading the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. William II was the son of Robert I of Normandy and Herleva, and he was the first Norman king of England. His reign brought about major changes in English society, including the introduction of feudalism and the construction of iconic structures like the Tower of London. He ruled until his death in 1087.
