Duccio di Buoninsegna
Duccio di Buoninsegna was an influential Italian painter from the late 13th and early 14th centuries, known for his role in the development of Sienese painting. Born around 1255 in Siena, he is celebrated for his innovative use of color and emotion in religious art, which helped to transition from the Byzantine style to a more naturalistic approach.
His most famous work is the Maestà , a large altarpiece created for the Siena Cathedral, showcasing his mastery of composition and detail. Duccio's art laid the groundwork for future artists, including Simone Martini and Ambrogio Lorenzetti, and he is often regarded as a precursor to the Renaissance.
