Dorsal Column Medial Lemniscus Pathway
The Dorsal Column Medial Lemniscus Pathway is a neural pathway in the central nervous system responsible for transmitting sensory information related to touch, vibration, and proprioception. It begins in the peripheral nerves, where sensory receptors detect stimuli, and the signals travel to the spinal cord. From there, the information ascends through the dorsal columns to the brainstem.
In the brainstem, the pathway synapses in the medial lemniscus, where the signals are relayed to the thalamus. Finally, the thalamus sends the processed information to the somatosensory cortex in the brain, allowing for the perception of sensory experiences.
