Dongzhi
Dongzhi is a traditional Chinese festival that celebrates the winter solstice, typically occurring around December 21 or 22. It marks the longest night of the year and the gradual return of longer daylight hours. Families gather to honor their ancestors and enjoy special foods, particularly tangyuan, which are glutinous rice balls symbolizing reunion and harmony.
The festival has deep cultural significance, emphasizing the importance of family and the changing seasons. In addition to tangyuan, some regions prepare dumplings to symbolize warmth and prosperity. Dongzhi is also a time for reflection and renewal as people look forward to the coming year.
