Dogme 95
Dogme 95 is a filmmaking movement founded in 1995 by Danish directors Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg. It emphasizes simplicity and authenticity in cinema, promoting a set of rules known as the "Vow of Chastity." These rules discourage the use of special effects, elaborate sets, and non-diegetic music, aiming to create a more genuine storytelling experience.
The movement seeks to strip away the artificial elements of filmmaking, focusing instead on character-driven narratives and real locations. By adhering to these principles, filmmakers aim to produce works that reflect true human emotions and experiences, challenging conventional cinematic practices.
