Doctors of Osteopathy
Doctors of Osteopathy, or DOs, are fully licensed physicians who focus on a holistic approach to medicine. They emphasize the body's ability to heal itself and often incorporate manual therapy techniques, such as osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), to diagnose and treat various conditions. Like their counterparts, MDs, DOs can prescribe medication and perform surgeries.
Osteopathic medicine is rooted in the belief that the body's structure and function are interconnected. DOs receive similar training to MDs, including four years of medical school, followed by residency programs. They are trained to consider the physical, emotional, and environmental factors affecting a patient's health.
