Dithering
Dithering is a technique used in digital imaging and graphics to create the illusion of color depth in images with limited color palettes. By strategically placing pixels of different colors next to each other, dithering helps to smooth out transitions and reduce the appearance of color banding. This is especially useful in situations where a full range of colors cannot be displayed, such as in older computer graphics or low-bit-depth images.
There are various dithering algorithms, such as Floyd-Steinberg and Ordered Dithering, each with its own method of distributing error between pixels. These techniques enhance the visual quality of images by blending colors more effectively, making them appear more vibrant and detailed despite the limitations of the display medium.
