Dien Bien Phu
Dien Bien Phu is a valley located in northwestern Vietnam, known for its historical significance during the First Indochina War. In 1954, it was the site of a major battle between the French colonial forces and the Vietnamese troops led by General Vo Nguyen Giap. The battle lasted from March to May and ended with a decisive victory for the Vietnamese, marking a turning point in the struggle for independence.
The defeat at Dien Bien Phu led to the Geneva Accords, which temporarily divided Vietnam into two regions: North Vietnam and South Vietnam. This event significantly influenced the course of Vietnamese history and the subsequent involvement of the United States in the region.
