Dick Turpin
Dick Turpin was an English highwayman who became famous in the 18th century. Born in 1705, he initially worked as a butcher before turning to crime. Turpin gained notoriety for robbing travelers on the roads, often using violence to intimidate his victims. His exploits captured the public's imagination, leading to a legendary status.
In addition to his criminal activities, Turpin is known for his daring escape from the law. He was eventually captured and tried for murder, leading to his execution in 1739. Today, he remains a symbol of the romanticized outlaw in British folklore.
