Deuteromycetes
Deuteromycetes, also known as imperfect fungi, are a group of fungi characterized by their lack of a known sexual reproductive stage. Instead, they reproduce asexually through spores called conidia. This group includes many species that are important in medicine, agriculture, and industry, as they can produce antibiotics, enzymes, and other valuable compounds.
Historically, Deuteromycetes were classified separately from other fungi due to their unique reproductive methods. However, advances in molecular biology have shown that many of these fungi are actually part of other fungal groups, leading to a re-evaluation of their classification within the broader kingdom of Fungi.
