Depth Cues
Depth cues are visual indicators that help us perceive the distance and three-dimensionality of objects in our environment. They can be categorized into two main types: monocular cues, which require only one eye, and binocular cues, which involve both eyes. Monocular cues include elements like size, texture, and overlap, while binocular cues rely on the slight difference in images seen by each eye, known as binocular disparity.
These cues are essential for depth perception, allowing us to navigate and interact with our surroundings effectively. By interpreting these visual signals, our brains can create a mental map of the spatial relationships between objects, enhancing our understanding of the world around us.
