Deep Sea Drilling Project
The Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP) was an international research initiative that began in 1968, aimed at exploring the ocean floor. Scientists used specialized drilling ships to collect core samples from beneath the seabed, providing valuable information about the Earth's geological history, plate tectonics, and oceanic processes.
The project significantly advanced our understanding of the Earth's crust and contributed to the development of the field of oceanography. It laid the groundwork for future initiatives, such as the Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) and the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP), which continue to explore the mysteries of the deep ocean.
