Declaration of Independence of Brazil
The Declaration of Independence of Brazil was proclaimed on September 7, 1822, marking Brazil's separation from Portuguese rule. This event was led by Dom Pedro I, the son of the King of Portugal, who declared Brazil's independence in a famous cry known as "IndependĂȘncia ou Morte!" This declaration was a response to growing tensions between Brazilian demands for autonomy and the Portuguese crown's attempts to reassert control.
Following the declaration, Brazil experienced a relatively peaceful transition to independence compared to other Latin American countries. The new nation established itself as the Empire of Brazil, with Dom Pedro I becoming its first emperor. The declaration was officially recognized by Portugal in 1825, solidifying Brazil's status as an independent nation.
