Decius
Decius was a Roman Emperor who ruled from 249 to 251 AD. He is best known for his efforts to restore traditional Roman values and religious practices during a time of crisis. Decius implemented a policy requiring all citizens to perform a sacrifice to the Roman gods, which led to significant persecution of Christians who refused to comply.
His reign was marked by military challenges, including invasions by the Goths and Carpi. Decius met his end in battle against the Goths in 251 AD, making him the first Roman emperor to die in combat. His legacy is often associated with the intensification of the conflict between the Roman state and early Christianity.
