Decatur Staleys
The Decatur Staleys were a professional American football team based in Decatur, Illinois. Founded in 1920, they were one of the original teams in the American Professional Football Association, which later became the National Football League (NFL). The Staleys were named after their sponsor, the A.E. Staley Company, and played their home games at the Decatur Stadium.
In 1921, the team moved to Chicago and was renamed the Chicago Bears. The Staleys had a successful run during their short time in Decatur, contributing to the early development of professional football in the United States. Their legacy continues through the Chicago Bears, one of the NFL's most storied franchises.
