De-Icing Procedures
De-icing procedures are essential for ensuring the safety and efficiency of aircraft operations during winter weather. These procedures involve the removal of ice, snow, or frost from the aircraft's surfaces, particularly the wings and tail, to maintain optimal aerodynamic performance. De-icing fluids, typically heated, are applied to the aircraft to melt any accumulated ice and prevent further accumulation.
After de-icing, a second process called anti-icing may be performed. This involves applying a different type of fluid that helps prevent ice from forming during flight. Both procedures are crucial for maintaining the safety of flights and are regulated by aviation authorities like the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
