Davidian movement
The Davidian movement is a religious group that emerged in the 1930s as an offshoot of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Founded by Victor Houteff, the movement emphasizes the prophetic interpretation of the Bible, particularly the book of Revelation. Its followers believe in the imminent return of Christ and the establishment of God's kingdom on Earth.
The movement gained attention in the early 1990s due to the tragic events at the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas. Led by David Koresh, the group faced a standoff with federal authorities, resulting in a deadly fire in 1993. This incident highlighted the tensions between religious groups and government agencies.
