Dastgah System
The Dastgah System is a traditional framework of music in Persian culture, primarily used in Iran. It consists of a series of modes or scales, each known as a dastgah, which serves as the foundation for improvisation and composition. There are twelve main dastgahs, each with its own unique emotional character and set of associated melodies, called goushehs.
Musicians utilize the dastgah system to create intricate performances, often incorporating elements of poetry and dance. This system not only guides the structure of the music but also reflects the rich cultural heritage of the Persian people, emphasizing the importance of improvisation and personal expression in their artistic practices.
