Darters
Darters are small, slender fish belonging to the family Percidae, primarily found in freshwater habitats across North America. They are known for their vibrant colors and distinctive patterns, which can vary significantly among species. Darters typically inhabit streams, rivers, and lakes, where they prefer areas with rocky or sandy bottoms.
These fish are important indicators of water quality and ecosystem health. They feed mainly on small invertebrates, using their quick movements to dart in and out of cover to catch prey. Many darter species are sensitive to pollution, making them valuable for monitoring environmental changes in their habitats.
