Dan Coats is an American politician and former intelligence official. He served as the Director of National Intelligence from March 2017 to August 2019 under President Donald Trump. Before this role, Coats was a U.S. Senator from Indiana from 2001 to 2017, where he focused on national security and foreign policy issues. Coats has a long history in public service, having also served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1989.
